A day in Bergen: art at Kranenburgh and time to explore the village
A day in Bergen, North Holland, does not need a packed schedule. Visit Museum Kranenburgh, wander through the village afterwards and settle somewhere for coffee or lunch. From DuinDromen in Warmenhuizen, it is an idea for a day of art and leisurely exploring.
Start your day in Bergen at Museum Kranenburgh
Museum Kranenburgh looks after art from 1900 to the present, with the Bergen School at the heart of its collection. This style of painting emerged in Bergen around 1915, with strong forms and contrasting colours. The collection includes works by Leo Gestel, Charley Toorop and Else Berg. Read about the collection and the artists’ village at Kranenburgh.
The museum has no permanent collection display. Not every work in the online collection will be on show during your visit. Choose an exhibition in advance from the current exhibition programme. That way, you will know what is on when you visit.
A day with time to explore the village
Here is one way to plan your day. Fit the museum visit around opening hours and any tickets you have; take the rest at your own pace.
- See the exhibition first. Then browse the museum shop or take a break.
- Head into the village afterwards. Walk through Bergen after the museum and see where you would like to stop.
- Choose somewhere for coffee or lunch. Take a seat before continuing your walk.
- Leave the rest of the day open. Seen enough? You can head back to your holiday home.
